Rebel wrestlers host Community, Marion County

The Franklin County High School boys and girls wrestling teams hosted a meet Thursday against the teams of Community and Marion County.

The Rebelette wrestlers picked up a victory in their lone competitive dual of the day while the Rebel wrestlers took losses to both of the opposing teams.

The Rebelettes had a clean sweep to start the meet with a 36-0 victory over the Community Viqueens.

The performances for Franklin County in the dual included three pinfall victories for six points each as Charley Evans won in the 120-pound weight class in 3:07, Julieta Garcia-Alonzo pinned her 126-pound opponent in 35 seconds and Sakura Call picked up a victory in the 132-pound class in 3:35.Alyssa Archer, Jocelyn James and Kaylee Coker added forfeit victories to boost the overall point total in their favor.

Marion County didn’t field a girls team for the meet as the Rebelettes won 36-0 against them by default as a result.

The Rebels had their closer dual of the day against the Community Vikings as they lost by a score of 48-31.

The Rebels had two pinfall victories in the dual which included Levi Bridges getting a win in the 120-pound division in 1:42 and Tyler Hindman picking up a victory in the 175-pound division in 3:38.

Cristian Fravel and Cooper Stevens also had early stoppages in their matches with both winning by technical fall in the 126-pound and 144-pound divisions, respectively, for five points each.

Jonathan Bustamante rounded out the scoring for the dual as he went the distance with his opponent for the 157-pound division before winning in a 7-3 decision for three points.Zaelyn Smith received a forfeit victory in the 285-pound division to provide another set of six points to the overall total.

The Rebels returned to the mat immediately afterward to face the Marion County Warriors and lost by a score of 59-18.

The Rebels recorded two more pinfall victories in the dual with Smith catching his opponent’s shoulders to the mat in 2:50 for a win in the 285-pound division.

Hindman then recorded his second pinfall victory of the day later in the dual as he won his 175-pound match in 3:07 to help Franklin County’s cause.

Shannon Stovall provided the only other points for the Rebels, however, as the Warriors swept the remainder of the matchups.

FC wrestlers at Marshall County

The FCHS boys and girls wrestling teams competed in a three-team meet Monday at Marshall County High School against the teams of Marshall County and Lawrence County.It was the opening meet of the season for the Rebel and Rebelettes wrestlers with the Rebels splitting their two duals for the day.

The Rebels were able to beat the Lawrence County Wildcats 48-18 at the meet by virtue of having a larger roster.

Fravel got the lone win on the mat for the Rebels in the dual as he pinned his opponent for the 132-pound weight class in 3:09.

The remaining points for the Rebels came via forfeits with Stovall, William Roberts, Stevens, Brylon Mitchell, Bustamante and Hindman claiming the points for Franklin County.

In the other half of the meet, the Rebels took a 57-18 loss to the hosting Marshall County Tigers.

The Rebels had two pinfall wins in the dual with Smith winning his 285-pound match in 3:42 while Bridges won in the 120-pound division in 59 seconds.also picked up another forfeit victory for the day, and the Tigers swept the remaining weight classes to give the Rebels a loss.

For the girls portion of the meet, the Rebelettes beat the Marshall County Tigerettes 36-6 in their debut dual.

The only two matches wrestled for the dual were won by the Rebelettes as Sakura Call pinned her opponent in the 132-pound division in 1:38, and Kaylee Coker got a pinfall victory in the 114-pound division in 4:22.

Charley Evans, Julieta-Garcia Alonzo, Jocelyn James and Alyssa Archer added forfeit victories to round out the point total.

Lawrence County didn’t field a girls team for the meet, giving the Rebelettes a 36-0 victory by default for that dual.

The FCHS boys and girls wrestling teams will next compete Saturday in the Frank Alexander Invitational at Donelson Christian Academy. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
